Bukhosi Nyathi

Bukhosi Mzikayise Nyathi was born in 1986 in the second capital of Zimbabwe, Bulawayo. He completed his secondary education in 2004 at Inyathi High School. His father, who is a welder by profession, encouraged him to pursue his artistic talent at Mzilikazi Art and Craft Centre where he went on to study Art in 2005 to 2006. He focused on various art forms such as: Commercial art, Ceramic sculpture, Pottery, and Fine art. He obtained a certificate in fine art.

After finishing at Mzilikazi Art Centre he was then recommended by the Institution to work in the Bulawayo National Art Gallery as a practicing emerging artist in one of the Gallery’s studios. He worked there for a period of six months during which he participated in various group exhibitions such as the Intwasa Arts festival. This experience was his first taste of the exhibiting world. He further exhibited at the VAAB (VISUAL ART ASSOCIATION OF BULAWAYO) in 2007 followed by the UMTHWAKAZI ARTS FESTIVAL also in 2007. After having completed his experience at the gallery, Nyathi travelled to South Africa and was introduced to Funda College. The following year in 2008 he enrolled at the college, where he studied for three years for a Diploma in Fine Art. During his study at Funda College, Nyathi participated in various group exhibitions and workshops.

Today Nyathi is excelling in his pursuit for an everlasting career in Art and he has his mind and art pieces ready for exhibiting to the public. The greatest inspirations for his work include nature, love, information, people, as well as socio-political issues etc. His work speaks volumes about deep issues that affect us all as humans. He utilizes his artwork to express his opinion on abuses of power, religion and even disposition of Africans. His last group exhibition was at a newly opened Gallery in Orange Grove called JoAnke www.joAnkegallery.com

Over the years, he has grown in his art as well as in his experience of exhibiting.
